Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Purpose of role 
 
To provide designs, plans, and measurement data to support engineers and produce results that accurately define mine operations and can be used for planning and production support. To follow established policies, practices, and procedures when completing work assignments. 
 
This role which is estimated for a duration of one year and is critical for the efficient transfer of knowledge to the local Mauritanian staff ensuring rigorous performance management is implemented as well as succession and development plans are in place with the aim of attaining Kinross Mauritanization objectives 
 
Key responsibilities 
 
- Overseas and manages the Survey Department with a focus on developing the National Workforce. 
The incumbent ensure the introduction and implementation of World Class Survey Processes and Procedures using both modern GPS Systems and Conventional Total Station Systems. 
Works closely with the Technical Services and Operations Groups to ensure accurate information to both groups 
Prepares mark ups / stakes; establishes survey control in field and issues drawings for excavation /construction; coordinates daily survey work in conjunction with engineering and 
Ensures the accuracy and timely processing of surveys by employing the necessary survey controls and checks and reviewing the work of other surveyors 
Follows established policies and procedures related to survey services and complies with established methodologies and quality standards and ensures mine plans are executed to meet regulatory requirements including health and safety 
Prepares semi-monthly mine statistical reports and reports on unusual or project related information to key stakeholders 
Completes monthly audits of development and reports on quality in terms of line, grade, and dimensions as well as of the surveyed development of as-built models and plans. 
Ensures surveyors have the, tools, and equipment in place to perform the work safely and efficiently 
Monitors performance, conducts job observations, and provides coaching to employees 
Handle and/or assist in activities related to coordinating health and safety programs 
Responds to a variety of internal and/or external requests related to employee health and safety 
Prepares required documents for the department, such as standard reports, training documents, communications, and reports on safety incidents, prioritizes, schedules, and plans assigned survey jobs 
Legislative Requirements:
Mauritanian work
permit is required

Language Requirements:
Must speak /
read / write English  and French
Arabic
language skills highly regarded but not essential

Experience: 
- Minimum of 5 years of open pit survey experience;
previous experience in mining industry is essential 
Experience managing survey crews Previous experience with a local and expatriate
workforce 
Must have previous experience in the following
software: Surpac, Minesite, Gemcom  

 Skills: 
- Ability to communicate effectively with all crew
members and all levels of management in a clear and concise manner  and to work
with others in a team environment 
Self motivated, with trainer coaching skills
towards our national workforce 
Able to think logically to solve problems and the
tenacity to work until a solution is found 
Able to work effectively both as part of a team
and independently without supervision 
Highly effective planning skills geared at
reducing inefficiencies and maximizing safety 
Willingness to work in adverse weather
conditions required

Education Requirements:
Technician
Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent
PLS
(Professional Land Surveyor) license
