Under the direction of the Materials Manager, the incumbent is responsible for handling the buying of all materials, supplies, services and equipment for the mine site while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Essential Functions 1. Process and monitor material costs of stock and non-stock purchase requisitions in accordance with Kinross Supply Chain Policy. 2. Ensure timely delivery of material requirements for Planning in line with the approved planning schedule. 3. Provide necessary information to Project Managers to keep them informed of any critical issues within assigned commodities. 4. Responsible for modifications to purchase orders due to price increases, over-shipments, expediting charges, freight, and related. 5. Attend assigned departmental meetings as required. 6. Submit requests for quotes to suppliers and input into MRP system for evaluation and award. 7. Process requests for shipping documents for all materials leaving mine site. Processing returns and credit request. 8. Expedite and track orders that are past due and update MRP system with current delivery dates. 9. Train new users on MRO System as it pertains to the procurement system. 10. Arrange transportation for orders as needed; review and/or approve freight invoices from contracted transportation company. 11. Expand bidders list by sourcing new suppliers, checking references, and submitting to the Accounting Manager. Monitor the distribution of inquiries and bid packages to vendors. Organize bid meetings and ensure bidders receive complete specifications. Receive and evaluate sealed bids, prepare bid analysis sheets, and recommend favorable bidders. 12. Review programs for overruns on time and material contracts. Resolve discrepancies involving extra charges due to changes in scope. 13. Participate in special procurement projects initiated by operating company. 14. Attend regular maintenance planning meetings to support and commit to the agreed schedule. 15. Rotate with other buyers on schedueled “On-Call” duty on the weekends. 16. Perform contract management and capitol expenditures as directed/assigned by the Materials Manager. 17. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct. 18. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management. 19. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance. 20. Works without risk or harm to self and others. 21. Punctuality and regular attendance required. 22. Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above. 23. Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor. |

1. Ability to comply with established procurement controls and procedures.
2. Ability to analyze situations, make logical decisions, and choose best course of action. 3. Must understand and know how to operate computerized purchasing and materials management systems and standard office equipment. 4. Must have good understanding of mining equipment, machinery and processes. 5. Good time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize work is essential. 6. Previous purchasing experience. 7. Previous accounting experienced preferred. 8. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills. 9. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations. 10. Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software. 11. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management. 12. Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team. 13. Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills. 14. Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis. 15. Requires valid driver’s license.
