Purpose of Role
Train qualified national instructors how to professionally teach a culturally diverse range of learners competency based field and workshop welding and boilermaking skills, in on job and off job situations. Contribute as a member of a large team of educational professionals, at all times demonstrating those behaviors that fully support Training and Development Department (T&D) values, as well as Kinross Gold Corporation and Tasiast’s policies and procedures. The incumbent should ensure that the on-the job performance of the trainees meets or exceeds T&D standards and contributes to the goals of Tasiast Operations. Demonstrate behaviors that match T&D values, follow and apply KGC and Tasiast Safety/Health/Environmental (SHE) policies and procedures, in order to be a role model for development program participants Demonstrate competence in the principles and application of competency based learning, so that development programs delivered and assessed meet T&D standards Professionally design and deliver/facilitate welding and boilermaking instructor training to meet T&D customer development needs and quality standards Lead others in setting up training workshops and classrooms which meet Tasiast’s welding / boilermaking requirements and which will support both training and production. Understand and competently apply professionally accepted principles of adult learning so that learners are given maximum opportunity to develop job competence. Assist to create competency based assessment tools, professionally conduct on and off the job competency assessments in field of expertise, in order to ensure assessment standards are met. Assist to schedule and communicate learning programs, follow schedules to ensure that programs are delivered as planned. Accurately record and report participant learning and assessment results so that participants’ records are consistently kept up to date and recorded in the company learning management system. Respond to customer learning and development requirements, provide appropriate technical support and advice in order to assist T&D meet/exceed customer expectations. Key challenges for the incumbent: Consistently delivering learning and assessment activities that truly achieve the specific learning outcomes for job competencies. Establishing professional welding and boilermaking quality and quantity standards which meet Tasiast’s present and future skill requirements. Managing learning situations that vary from "one on one" coaching to group delivery, and teaching others to operate in similar environments. Establishing a workplace culture in which safety is completely integrated. Sensitively and professionally work with learners from a wide range of cultures |

Minimum
Education and Experience: Occupational Skills – Plan and organize work, care and use of tools and equipment, and use of parts and service manuals. 1G to 6G welding skills MMAW, GMAW, GMAW (Non Ferrous), TIG & MIG Fabrication Structural, Pipe, Conical, Concentric & Cylindrical Material Science Geometric Development Hard Facing Metallurgy & NDT The specialized skills acquired through education, and/or work experience needed for a Welding instructor are: Post-secondary education in Welding and/or Boilermaking and five years experience as a welder in Mining or Heavy Industry, or Certificate as a journeyman Welding and/or Boilermaking from a recognized equipment manufacturer, state operated apprentice system, or technical training college and 5 years experience Completion of a program in instruction technology and course development In addition specialized programs which lead to proficiencies in: Analytical Thinking, Concern for Safety & Environment, Customer Success Orientation, Cultural Sensitivity, and Team Leadership. Physical Demands & Work Environment Able to work safely in a mining environment subject to loud noise, vibration, dust and diesel exhaust, heat, and insect and water born health hazards. Capable of carrying 20 kilograms for extended distances. Capable of sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time. Capable of wearing appropriate safety equipment for long periods. |
