JOB SUMMARY:  (brief description) 
   
Responsible for metallurgical performance of all mill unit operations.  Supervises and directs metallurgical  staff.  Provides daily technical support to mill operations.  Develops and directs lab and plant test   programs for improving mill performance.  Assists operations with implementation of new plant practices.  Prepares reports on departmental projects, consumables, metallurgical balances and production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (specific duties and responsibilities)
1. Interact with mill operations and mill maintenance to maximize mill efficiencies in a safe and   
 environmentally sensitive manner.    
2. Provide daily technical support to troubleshoot and correct mill metallurgical problems.   
3. Fill in for the mill superintendent in his/her absence.
4. Develop explanatory models to allow for monitoring and evaluating of mill efficiencies and    
 metallurgical performance.    
5. Provide input into process control system development, maintenance, and optimization.     
6. Develop and maintain operating data collection and archive systems and databases.   
7. Supervise and direct metallurgical departmental activities. This includes laboratory and plant test   
 programs to improve recovery, production or costs.  Perform technical and economic evaluations   
 of alternatives identified from lab and plant investigations.     
8. Has overall responsibility for mill metallurgical accounting including daily, monthly, and annual metal  
 balances.
9. Has overall responsibility for refinery operation and metal production.   
10. Responsible for monitoring gold shipments, assay exchange, and refinery settlements.
11. Interact with geology, mine planning, and ore control personnel to define metallurgical   
 characteristics of ore reserves.   
12. Coordinate metallurgical input into royalty calculations.    
13. Quantify economic benefits associated with process modifications.   
14. Must assume responsibility for decisions and actions, while expeditiously moving business forward.  15. Has overall responsibility for mill sampling systems and practices.   
16. Stays current with new developments in metallurgical technology and plant practices.   
17. Assumes a leadership role in training and development of metallurgical staff.
18. Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
19. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety,   
 confidentiality and environmental policies.  
20. Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.   
21. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state   
22. Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.    
23. Maintain accurate records and files.   
24. Consistent exercise of discretion and judgement in job performance.   
25. Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions and carrying   
 out corrective actions as needed.  
26. Investigate, analyze and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment   
 damage, and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  (qualifications)
1. Bachelor's of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field required.
2. Minimum of ten years experience in operations and technical support, including five years in precious  
 metals, and two years of process control.  
3. Experience with advanced control systems would be beneficial.   
4. Detailed knowledge of all phases of gold processing including grinding and agitated leaching with   
 cyanide, carbon absorption and regeneration, and refining.    
5. Superior judgement and the ability to make good decisions are essential.  Must be able to    
 identify the root problem, not only symptoms of a problem.    
6. Proactive, forward-thinking individual who plans and anticipates, rather than reacts.   
7. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all 
 levels of employees and management.   
8. Attention to detail, a clear sense of priorities, and effective time management skills.
9. Result / team orientation and superior business sense.    
10. Demonstrated work ethic and self-motivated individual with the reputation of having a consistent   
 sustained initiative, that shows by example how to get things done within an organizational    
 environment.
11. Interpersonal approach that demonstrates leadership and instills pride, trust, and openness from  
 others.
12. Adaptability in new environments with a sensitivity and appreciation for cultural differences.   
13. Ability to present plans and findings and make recommendations to Mill Manager and Senior   
 Management.  
14. Good working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.  
15. Experience in managing personnel in varying and unrelated fields.   
16. Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
17. Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
