A large tonnage open pit operation, Round Mountain has earned commendations for its safety and environmental initiatives. Round Mountain is an open pit mining operation located in Nye County, Nevada. Gold production in the Round Mountain district dates back to 1906. A hundred years later, Round Mountain mine reached the significant milestone of 10 million ounces poured, achieved over a 20-year period. Most of the people who work at the mine live in the nearby communities of Hadley and Carvers.

Job Summary

The position is meant to provide a college student studying geology practical work experience in the mining industry while assisting the geologic staff in routine tasks and in the completion of special projects while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
 
Essential Functions

1.   Assists the staff geologist in pit mapping and ore control.
2.   Assists the exploration geologist in field mapping and geochemical sampling.
3.   Assists the staff geologist in slope monitoring and pit dewatering projects.
4.   Performs drill rig sampling and drill monitoring, both in development and exploration drilling.
5.   Assists the staff geologist on special projects (blasted muck movement, pit water chemistry, etc.).
6.   Performs sample preparation, cataloging, and storage tasks.
7.   Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
8.   Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
9.   Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
10.   Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
11.   Works without risk or harm to self and others.
12.   Punctuality and regular attendance required.
13.   Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

1.   Must possess a professional attitude toward responsibilities.
2.   Must be able to work with little or no direct supervision and work well with others.
3.   Must be able to work in a safe manner and adhere to RMGC safety standards.
1.     Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
2.   General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
3.   Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
4.   Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
5.   Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
6.   Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
7.   Minimum of 2 years towards Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 year experience geology or related degree program.
8.   Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
9.   Requires valid driver’s license.
