Kinross' Operation Strategy group is looking to hire on a student for the summer of 2015 as part of our Gold Rush Internship program!
In this role, our Gold Rush, Summer Intern: Operations Strategy will Support performance improvement projects in the assessment and/or implementation phases. • Collect and analyze data, summarizing findings in a structured format. • Work collaboratively with site, regional, and corporate teams. • Monitor and report on progress of implementation action plans. • Participate in the development of communication materials to share progres and challenges with site and corporate management as required. Support business case development: • Support the development of business cases for investment decisions, including preparation and/or validation of analysis to ensure accuracy. • As needed, work closely with the other teams in the Operations Strategy department (eg. Strategic Business Planning, Technical Services, Energy) or other corporate functions (eg. Finance, HR, Legal, etc.) Work closely with the Projects Group in completing Scoping, Pre-feasibility, or Feasibility studies: • Provide analytical support and input into the assumptions used in project studies (e.g. mine opex, processing opex) • Work closely with the projects team in developing and finalizing inputs for select sections of the studies • Liaise with site personnel and outside consultants to perform detailed reviews of the select sections of the studies. If required perform internal and external benchmarking exercises to validate the reasonability of the assumptions Support the Strategic Business Planning Process • Assist sites in the process of updating their life of mine (LOM) plans as needed • Perform comprehensive reviews of the LOM plans (e.g. comparisons with previous years, reconciliation with budget), creating summaries of findings |

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate university degree in an analytical discipline
• Mining engineering or processing/metallurgy preferred, but candidates studying other forms of engineering, mathematics or business / economics may also be considered • Preference for candidates in their 3rd or 4th year of university, but other candidates may also be considered • Strong analytical capabilities and experience in Excel • Excellent attention to detail • Strong communication skills, both written and oral; experience in Powerpoint an Asset • Proven ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds • Team player with an ability to work effectively in a team setting • Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task • Experience working at a mine site an asset • Language skills in Russian, French, Arabic, Portuguese or Spanish are assets, but not mandatory • Ability and willingness to travel. The amount of travel will depend upon the projects the individual gets staffed on. Travel could be up to 30 or 40 percent of the individual’s time at certain times, typically for one or two weeks at a time. |
