Kinross Round Mountain is an open pit mining operation located in Nye County, Nevada. Round Mountain is proud to have earned commendations for its safety and environmental initiatives.

Under the direction of the Chief Geologist, the person will be responsible for geologic mapping and assisting the geotechnical staff as well as the geological resource QP. The person should possess the skills of a “well rounded” mine geologist while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values .
 
Essential Functions

1. Geologic pit mapping.
2. Geotechnical cell mapping.
3. Slope monitoring.
4. Work with the mine planning group.
5. Work with the blasting group.
6. Work with the geotechnical engineers.
7. Direct involvement with the mine department.
8. Performs work assignments in a timely manner.
9. Must possess a professional attitude towards responsibilities.
10.   Must be able to work with little or no supervision; must be able to work well with others.
11.   Represents the company with drilling and other contractors.
12.   Must be able to work in a safe manner and adhere to RMGC safety standards.
13.   Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
14.   Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
15.   Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
16.   Works without risk or harm to self and others.
17.   Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.
18.   Punctuality and regular attendance required.
19.   Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
20.   Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

 

1. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
2. General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
3. Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing work processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
4. Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
5. Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
6. Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills
7. Strong technical skills in geology.
8. Experience in the use of geotechnical programs.
9. Good understanding of volcanic rocks.
10.   Strong geologic, geotechnical and structural mapping skills.
11.   Should be skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and AutoCad (or equivalent.
12.   Must have a good knowledge and be able to use mining software, preferably Vulcan.
13.   Bachelor’s degree in geologic or related sciences is required.
14.   Minimum of 5 years’ mine experience in geologic and geotechnical mapping.
15.   Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field of geology with an emphasis on volcanic environments.
16.   An understanding of geologic resource modeling is beneficial.
17.   Ability to prioritize work in a team-oriented environment.
18.   Must be an “out of the box” thinker.
19.   Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
20.   Requires valid driver’s license.
