Kinross is a Canadian-based gold mining company with mines and projects in Canada, the United States, Brazil, Chile, Russia, Ghana and Mauritania, employing approximately 9,000 people worldwide. Our core purpose is to lead the world in generating value through responsible mining.

Fully owned by Kinross, the Kupol mine consists of an underground operation. It is located in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug of the Far East Region of the Russian Federation. The Kupol mine consists of a high-grade gold and silver vein.

Key Job Duties:
• Inspect underground development, stopes, raises and other critical infrastructure.
• Ensure support “projects” are followed and report on the status
• Attend all safety and planning meetings
• Analyze geotechnical data to ascertain stability and take action to stabilize, as required.
• Work with consultants for geotechnical support when needed.
• Ensure that geotechnical instrumentation, systems are utilized efficiently and effectively.
• Support Kinross “The Way We Work” system,  following all applicable corporate safety standards and government regulations relative to the geotechnical aspects.
• Coordinate the following of the design and planning of capital projects relevant to geotechnical work to enable Kupol’s mining activities to proceed as planned.
• Direct, facilitate, monitor, and support geotechnical projects in accordance with prescribed designs, methods, safety standards, time lines, costs, and quality requirements.
• Develop and deliver internal and external status reports, summaries, analyses, warnings/bulletins, and correspondence as required by technical or regulatory demands.
• Maintain, control and track of documents, reports, and drawings.
This role will also help support other functions within the Mine Technical Service Department when required.

• Approximately three years of relevant mining engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree Geotechnical Engineering/Engineering Geology/Mining Engineer
• Experience in working in Permafrost is desirable
• Must be able to pass and maintain a level of fitness to pass the medical exam
• Must be able to work in a team of engineers and operations staff.
The Jr. Geotech is responsible for providing expertise and knowledge in the following areas: rock mechanics; design and installation of ground support; rock mass monitoring, installation of various types of instrumentation underground and understanding of underground geotechnical essentials.
