Role Profile Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Project Commercial Director, the role is responsible for coordination and execution of special assignments during the Tasiast Expansion Project implementation phase and for preparation of key communications materials to be used during Project Steering Committee Meetings and other high level management forums. Tactically, this includes preparation of business case analysis of various scenarios, general coordination of specific tasks frequently involving other members of the team and external stakeholders and identification of best solution opportunities for implementation. The Manager, Special Assignments and Coordination will also support the Project Director and Project Commercial Director in problem solving of unexpected events and will provide general project coordination between Owners Project Team the EPCM Team (Hatch). Strategically, the role requires Manager, Special Assignments and Coordination to establish the required strategic relationships both within Kinross, Hatch EPCM team and third parties to ensure successful project execution. Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties • Ensure EH&S corporate objectives and key Kinross Core Values are respected. • Manage and complete special initiatives and project business cases • Manage and “own” the completion of special initiatives by framing problems, leading / performing analysis and finding solutions as required by the Project Director and Project Commercial Director to address project related needs and challenges as they arise during the Project execution period • Develop business cases from a financial and to a lesser extent technical perspective to evaluate and provide input required to make critical project decisions • Manage, coordinate and ensure alignment between stakeholders from Kinross Operations, Regional Management, Corporate, and EPCM teams to ensure timely and high quality input on all aspects of the initiatives • Apply a strategic approach and lessons learned from past experience to Project-related problems or opportunities outside of formal scope of responsibility • Manage and plan activities of junior resources supporting initiatives and business cases • Specifically, manage, improve, and utilize the “construction site indirects” construction execution model to support execution planning, forecasting, and analysis of site indirects such as camp loading, transportation, and resources (waste, fuel, water, etc.) • Present results of analysis to key stakeholders and / or Steering Committee or other groups as required • Keep Project Commercial Director and Project Director and other key stakeholders updated on progress and proactively ask for help or input as required • Manage the conceptualization, preparation and development of Project-related executive communication material and participate in executive-level Steering Committee • Design, develop and manage the overall process of completing executive presentation documents to report Project progress, issues, opportunities and plans for Steering Committee meetings, Board of Directors meetings, updates to executives, and ad-hoc internal presentations • Manage the overall executive presentation creation timeline and process, design messaging strategy, developing presentation material, work with stakeholders (Kinross Operations, Regional, Corporate, and EPCM) to ensure timely submission of required materials, distil key messages from others’ work into an executive-friendly format and apply insights from wide knowledge of Project activities to others’ work • Manage the planning, content, and execution of Project / Region / Site team alignment meetings • Provide strategic input and oversight on overall Project execution via: • Providing thoughtful and analysis-based input to Steering Committee, Core Team Strategy, Project Management and other ad-hoc meetings (planning, project management, finance related, contractual, etc.) • Reviewing and providing input to the EPCM partner’s work and other Owner’s team stakeholders as required to improve work quality, ensure accuracy, and ensure multiple perspectives are considered • Performing ad-hoc project management related work as required and / or coordinate others to do so Work Location • 2015 Q1 to 2016 Q2: During the project engineering phase of the project – the base location is the Hatch office in Oakville, Ontario with visits to the Kinross corporate office on an as required basis , as well as ad-hoc visits to Tasiast, the African Regional Office in Las Palmas, Canary Islands or other locations • 2016 Q2 to 2018 Q2: During the project construction and commissioning phase of the project – on site at Tasiast mine site in Mauritania |

Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements
• Superior leadership and team building competencies • Ability to provide leadership and direction to highly skilled Project, Kinross Operations, Corporate, Regional and EPCM staff using influence skills rather than formal reporting authority • Highly collaborative work style, ability to work with both technical and financial leaders • Highly flexible, fast learner that can come up to speed on a problem in an unfamiliar area to start adding value in a short period of time. • “Executive-level” communication skills in presentation development, oral communication and other documentation • Ability to work under pressure and put in effort necessary to meet tight deadlines • Team player, ability to interact effectively in teams either as a leader or team member • Rigorous, analytical and good attention to detail • Very strong modelling and business case development skills • Language skills in French, Arabic, and Spanish are plus, but not mandatory. Preference is also given to candidates with international experience Education • Undergraduate university degree in an analytical discipline with a preference in engineering • MBA and/or several years of Management Consulting a plus Required Experience • 5 years of more experience in a related capacity or capacities, including but not limited to: • Experience leading senior personnel, including teams within both highly technical and financial functions; and, • A minimum of 3 years of experience developing strategy and monitoring execution for an international company (preferably mining related); and, • A minimum of 3 years of experience in detailed financial analysis and modeling • Capital projects experience from early engineering works throughout execution phases (through to commissioning and demobilization) is a strong asset Reports to Project Commercial Director #LI-JJ |
