Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

 
To assist in general
mine geology activities with an emphasis on drill planning and execution. To
assist in ensuring that all mine geologists remain current and proficient in
appropriate mining software skills. To participate in the maximization of operational
efficiencies and profitability. To assist with the corporate and market
resource and reserve reporting.
To share the direction
of the geology programs at Tasiast gold mine. As a senior member of the geology
team, you will act as a mentor and role model to less experienced
geologists. You will also have extensive experience in resource geology
specific to gold which will enable you to provide expert technical advice and
recommendations to engineers for planning purposes. 


Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties 

a. To complete statutory and corporate reporting as required:
b. Assists with the consolidation of the company’s resource and reserve estimates at the mine and corporate level
c. Has responsibility for compliance with respect to mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates
d. Provides geological and resource modeling support for Tasiast operations
e. Participates in due diligence reviews and compilation of engineering studies
f. Assists in establishing processes related to geology and resource modeling
g. Participates in Life of Mine and Strategic Business Plan reporting as required
h. Compiles and distributes weekly and monthly reports as well as regular reconciliation reports
i. Provides geological input and consults with Mine Engineering staff regarding mine design
j. Ability to develop and update mineral reserve and resource models for estimating reserves, create and maintain drill hole/geological database and plan and direct development drilling k. Adheres to all safety and environmental considerations. Wears PPE at all times while in the production environment. Is alert and observes, corrects, and reports unsafe conditions
l. Follows operating procedures and complies with all regulatory requirements 
m. To act as a member of the mine geology team:
n. Participates in specification and ordering of parts and equipment as necessary for the geology and drilling functions at Tasiast using inventory and ordering systems in place
o. Build the capabilities of the team to enhance their ability to achieve budget and operational goals p. Provide information on operating standards, compliance requirements and policies q. Assists in general mine geology activities as appropriate
r. Provides input into budgets and operating plans as required
s. Supports Senior Mine Geologists



 

Minimum
Qualifications & Skill Requirements 
   

- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or higher
- Previous work experience using Surpac 3D or Micromine modeling software or similar software package
- Over 8   years of mining related experience as an operator and / or consultant
- Advanced geological and resource modeling experience
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills in French and English


 Additional
Qualifications & Skill Requirements 

- Additional specialized education of up to 2 years including masters level degree or equivalent
- Proven capacity in preparing and updating reserves technical reports, compliance with industry and operational requirements and compiling and interpreting geological and assay data
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, organizational, technical and analytical skills
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing situations
- Good working knowledge and skill with AutoCAD and proficiency with MS Office
- Preference will be given to candidates with West African experience
