Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Purpose of Role
To provide complex technical support and managerial oversight for the Tasiast mobile and fixed cranes, boom trucks, man-lifts forklifts, scissor lifts and all rigging associated with lifting operations.  To ensure alignment of Operations, Environmental, Maintenance, Projects and end users by following established policies, practices, and procedures. To provide direction and act as a conduit to a diverse team through auditable crane certification and lifting equipment practices and techniques. It is critical to this role the efficient transfer of knowledge to the local Mauritanian staff ensuring rigorous performance management is implemented as well as succession and development plans are in place with the aim of attaining Kinross Mauritanisation objectives. The incumbent in this role leads a diverse team of crane and rigging operators at the senior supervisor level and reports to Tasiast Utilities  Manager. Key Areas of Responsibilities and Duties
Responsible for ensuring certified operators will perform all duties associated with lifting.
Execute daily maintenance checks on all mobile lifting equipment as well as management of all rigging gear
Ensures compliance with established methodologies and practices for lifting parts, equipment and people
Assists with all projects related to lifting to ensure only certified personnel operate lifting equipment at Tasiast
Provides an analysis and reporting of any anomaly that occurs in the crane and lifting section
Must mentor or train less experienced crane operators, riggers and employees
Assists in the development of crane usage procedures at Tasiast
Addresses queries and resolves technical issues for internal customers while ensuring safety standards are constantly met
Ensures internal and external customers comply with company policy, procedures and regulations in all aspects of crane and lifting use
Provides training to internal customers as needed
Works closely with the maintenance departments ensure certified operators and riggers are available for their departmental lifting
Directs the activities of other Services Groups personnel if required
Acts as a communication linchpin with the team and models all organization’s values
Contributes to the development and revision of policies and procedures

Education
College Degree or University accreditation in an engineering field preferred Experience
5 – 10 years of related work experience, including previous crane and lifting equipment management in a mining operation or construction environment.
Previous experience in mining at a remote location is an asset
Certification in crane operation and rigging a must Knowledge and Skills
Complete knowledge of the principles of crane operation, including calculations for lifting limits, rigging techniques, and counterweight installation.
Wire rope change procedure knowledge with certificates
English and French proficiency required
Good communicator: excellent written and verbal communication skills and must be able to communicate to all levels of management
Ability to adapt and  learn quickly
Experience in a computerized maintenance software (JDE) is an asset
Ability to budget for crane operations at a large scale mining organization as well as work within the approved budget
Relevant computer literacy
Ability to lead multi-discipline teams
Must be extremely customer oriented Other
Job is based in Tasiast mine on a 10/4 day rotation schedule to Las Palmas, Spain.  Must be able to enter and reside in Spain. Optional schedule of 6X3 week will be considered back to country of origin.
Mauritanian work permit required
