Based in Mauritania, Kinross Tasiast is set to become one of the great gold finds of our generation. It is the first mine in a highly prospective greenstone belt, located within an extensive gold system that is largely underexplored.

Purpose of Role
Responsible for metallurgical performance of all mill unit operations.  Supervises and directs metallurgical staff.  Provides daily technical support to mill operations.  Develops and directs lab and plant test programs for improving mill performance.  Assists operations with implementation of new plant practices. Prepares reports on departmental projects, consumables, metallurgical balances and production. Develops budgets and forecasting tools, and proactively manages production and costs. It is critical to this role the efficient transfer of knowledge to the local Mauritanian staff ensuring rigorous performance management is implemented as well as succession and development plans are in place with the aim of attaining Kinross Mauritanisation objectives. This role reports to Tasiast Process Manager and leads a team of expats and national superintendents, supervisors and other staff. Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
Interact with mill operations and mill maintenance to maximize mill efficiencies in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner.
Provide daily technical support to troubleshoot and correct mill metallurgical problems.
Fosters an environment where safety is the top priority.
Fill in for the mill superintendent in his/her absence.
Develop explanatory models to allow for monitoring and evaluating of mill efficiencies and metallurgical performance. Provide input into process control system development, maintenance, and optimization.
Develop and maintain operating data collection and archive systems and databases.
Supervise and direct metallurgical departmental activities. This includes laboratory and plant test programs to improve recovery, production or costs.
Perform technical and economic evaluations of alternatives identified from lab and plant investigations.
Has overall responsibility for mill metallurgical accounting including daily, monthly, and annual metal balances.
Has overall responsibility for refinery operation and metal production.
Responsible for monitoring gold shipments, assay exchange, and refinery settlements.
Interact with geology, mine planning, and ore control personnel to define metallurgical characteristics of ore reserves and to optimize throughput and recovery.
Coordinate metallurgical input into royalty calculations.
Quantify economic benefits associated with process modifications.
Must assume responsibility for decisions and actions, while expeditiously moving business forward.
Has overall responsibility for mill sampling systems and practices.
Stays current with new developments in metallurgical technology and plant practices.
Assumes a leadership role in training and development of metallurgical staff.
Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality and environmental policies.
Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.

Maintain accurate records and files.
Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, recommending promotions and carrying out corrective actions as needed.
Investigate, analyze and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries and equipment damage, and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
Develop methodolgy to accuratly forcast reagent usage, ball consumptions and cost.
Manage for recovery, throughput, and cost.
Identifies KPIs for the Met team, sets performance targets, and measure, manages and monitors these KPIs
Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor. Work is advanced in its complexity and involves new methodologies, approaches, or products requiring the interpretation of information to make recommendations. Problem resolution involves a high degree of independent judgement to interpret policy in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible. Applies theoretical concepts or original approaches to complete projects or assignments. Work is assessed based on attainment of objectives and effectiveness of results. Ensures quality standards are upheld in their field of specialization. Provides technical input to the work of project teams and / or task forces.
Education
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related field required. Experience
Minimum of ten years’ experience in operations and technical support, including five years in precious Metals, and two years of process control.
Experience with advanced control systems would be beneficial.
Knowledge and Skills
Detailed knowledge of all phases of gold processing including grinding and agitated leaching with cyanide, carbon absorption and regeneration, and refining.
Superior judgment and the ability to make good decisions are essential.  Must be able to identify the root problem, not only symptoms of a problem, and drive positive change.
Proactive, forward-thinking individual who plans and anticipates, rather than reacts.
Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
